I was born and raised in a little village in the Territory of Alaska. As a child, prior to Statehood, I homesteaded on a lake deep in the woods with my parents and family and still live here. With a lot of luck, we've kept it private for over 50 years. I started running commercial salmon gillnetters when I was too young to legally work at most of the jobs in the cannery. I ended up putting in ~27 years at it. That put me through college and grad school and having that autonomy as a "Captain" at 17 ruined me from ever being comfortable having a boss! I ended up with a professional graduate degree from a prestigious University and am wrapping up 25 years in my "second" career). I think I have time for one more :-) My family has dabbled in politics but tend to be too stubborn for such occupations to fit well :-)
Instead ... I observe with bemused interest as the idiots and uninformed compete on the same political stages as the wise and practical ... and am constantly amazed and fascinated at how much trouble many people (and the mainstream press) have in telling the two sorts apart.
